Two years into your apprenticeship and ready for a place where you can really build your trade? BGT is looking for a 3rd Year Fitter & Turner Apprentice to join the team at John Valves in Ballarat and continue working towards a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical.

This is a great opportunity to take the skills you’ve already developed and put them to work in a busy manufacturing environment where precision matters, the work is varied and you’ll keep learning from experienced people around you.

You won’t be standing around watching someone else do the interesting stuff. You’ll be working hands-on with valve components, machining, fitting and assembling, reading technical drawings, checking your work for quality and learning how to diagnose and repair mechanical equipment.

What you’ll get stuck into

You’ll continue developing your skills across:

• precision fitting, turning and assembly
• lathes, milling machines and grinders
• reading and working from technical drawings
• inspecting finished components for quality and accuracy
• maintaining machining equipment and tools
• diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues
• working alongside experienced tradespeople and the engineering team

And, importantly, you’ll keep progressing towards your nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical (Fitter & Turner).

Who are we looking for?

You’re already in the third year of your Fitter & Turner apprenticeship and you’re looking for the right place to take it through to completion.

You take pride in doing a job properly, have a good eye for detail and enjoy the satisfaction of making things work as they should. You’re comfortable working as part of a team, willing to ask questions and keen to keep building your skills.

You’ll also understand that in a workshop, safety, reliability and looking out for the people around you matter.
